20th Parinirvana Divas of the 19th Kushok Bakula Rinpoche

4 November 2023, World Buddhist Centre, New Delhi

The event was attended by a number of monks from different traditions besides representatives of the Japanese Monastery from Sarnath (Uttar Pradesh, India). On the occasion, Mr. Sonam Wangchuk, Deputy Secretary General of Asian Buddhist Conference for Peace (ABCP), briefed the gathering on the life, achievements and contributions of the 19th Kushok Bakula Rinpoche. He highlighted Ven. Kushok Bakula Rinpoche’s contribution to the security of Ladakh in the past and also his tremendous gift to the people of Mongolia by preaching to them the valued teaching of the Buddha.

Ven. Acharya Lobsang Shastri, former Speaker of the Central Tibetan Administration (CTA), mentioned there was a need for more proactive awareness building among people on the life and contribution of Ven. Kushok Bakula Rinpoche. He suggested that a library should be set up in Ladakh where the life and work of Ven. Kushok Bakula Rinpoche should be collated for public reading.

In his keynote address on the occasion, Shri Abhijit Halder, Director General, IBC remembered his personal meeting with Ven. Kushok Bakula Rinpoche in Ulaanbataar in 1990 when he had travelled there from Moscow. He also briefed the gathering about the exposition of the Holy Relic of the Buddha in Mongolia, which was carried by the 20th Kushok Bakula Rinpoche in June 2022.

The event ended with prayers by monks of the Mahayana and Theravada traditions besides the Japanese monks.
