School of Sanskrit and Indic Studies (SSIS), in collaboration with Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU), and the Karmapa International Buddhist Institute (KIBI), New Delhi organised a Workshop on “Treasures of Indian Knowledge Traditions” at JNU Campus, New Delhi on 21/11/2024.

The highlight of the seminar was an engaging and scholarly presentation by Dr. Rolf Scheuermann, a lecturer from Heidelberg University. Dr. Scheuermann delivered an insightful discourse on the transmission of Buddhist literature from India to Tibet and beyond. His presentation delved into the pivotal role of Sanskrit texts in preserving and disseminating Buddhist teachings across these regions, shedding light on the historical, cultural, and linguistic aspects of this rich heritage. In his address as Chief Guest, DG IBC highlighted that ancient Indian wisdom is the foundation stone of numerous scientific and technological advancements we witness in present times. He also highlighted that the zest for knowledge was at its peak in the ancient era which made lots of discoveries were possible. One marvels at Buddha’s understanding of the depths of mind and matter.

The workshop served as an enriching platform for scholars, students, and practitioners to explore the profound impact of Indian knowledge systems on global spiritual and intellectual traditions.
